It’s Mike Pitre who gives Bohemian Knuckleboogie its mojo, with his swinging Texas-Louisiana bayou swamp-blues beat that heats up dance floors.

“Times come and go but the blues is the blues and we still got that itch,” says Pitre, who hails from Port Arthur, Texas, and now calls San Francisco home.

Their latest album, ”The Latrocinor” swings as Bohemian Knuckleboogie band leader Mike Pitre pulls up to your bumper and sets the groove with his pocket trumpet, guitar and Texas/Louisiana bayou vocals— “all blues for your shoes,” as Pitre likes to say.

Anthony Joseph & The Spasm Band

Anthony Joseph of (Anthony Joseph & The Spasm Band) is one of the leading writers of his generation. A poet, novelist, academic and musician, he was born in Trinidad, moving to the UK in 1989. His publications include Desafinado (1994), Teragaton (1997) and The African Origins of UFOs (Salt, 2006). In 2004 he was chosen by the Arts Council as one of 50 black and Asian writers who have made major contributions to contemporary British literature, appearing in the historic ‘Great Day’ photograph. In 2005 Joseph served as the British Council’s first Poet in Residence at California State University, Los Angeles. He has performed internationally and also tours with his band The Spasm Band. Joseph lectures in creative writing at Birkbeck College and at Goldsmiths College, University of London where he is a doctoral candidate.

The Hip Bop Experiment: Volume 1

The Hip Bop Experiment is an ongoing recording project based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Its goal is to promote musical growth and to explore frontier musical scenarios within jazz, hip hop, and funk styles. The Experiment emphasizes a symbiotic musical relationship between live jazz musicians and hip hop artists, with a foundation in jazz arranging. Completely void of “samples,” the Experiment draws on both original compositions and adapted jazz standards, creating a sound unlike anything attempted on a large scale in the hip hop or jazz worlds.
