Kelly Slater Filming Teahupoo In 3D

In case you haven’t heard, in addition to gunning for a ninth world title, Kelly Slater is making a 3D film for IMAX Theaters. The premise of the film, which focuses on exploring ocean waves, takes a scientist and Slater around the world doing what Slater does best – Surfing.

With an anticipated release date of Fall 2009, Slater and crew are knee-deep in production. As usual, Slater consulted with Surfline’s Sean Collins before heading to Tahiti. And with a large-scale production team in tow, being at the right place at the right time is all the more imperative.

Sean Collins explains how this particular Teahupoo expedition came to fruition:

We basically had a three-week window to tell them when to ship everyone down there. We went for these last two swells at the end of last week and this weekend. The swells didn’t look all that great during this period but we had to pick the eyes out of it and get a couple medium-sized swells so they could get some footage in the can. Kelly shipped in from Bali, Dorian from Hawaii, and the IMAX crew with millions of dollars of equipment and production people from Canada and the USA.

Xavier Rudd Gets Blue

Xavier Rudd - BlueBest-selling Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd is set to release his seventh album, Dark Shades of Blue, on August 19th. Confirmed appearances at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Bumbershoot Festivals in August and the Austin City Limits Festival in September will bookend a headlining tour that will find Rudd bringing his live performance to cities across the U.S.

Dark Shades of Blue is dusky and cool, more sober than any of his earlier work. Guitar-driven jams expand on a sound only hinted at on previous releases, and distortion often supplants the pretty jangly guitars he’s known for. Mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool and Queens of the Stone Age), Dark Shades of Blue shows Rudd at his most assertive, heavy and psychedelic, and while Xav’s signature didgeridoo remains, along with myriad other instruments and voices, the results are less ‘world music‘ and something more universally global.

The past few years have been a whirlwind for Xavier. In between sold out tours in Europe, Australia and the US, both headlining and supporting the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson and Ben Harper, he has been working on the film score for fellow-surfer and Rudd-enthusiast Matthew McConaughey’s Surfer Dude, a film starring McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Willie Nelson. I wonder how many drugs these dudes are using on set? Anyway, peep the track listing BELOW.

Official Track Listing:

1.) Black Water
2.) Dark Shades Of Blue
3.) Secrets
4.) Guku
5.) Edge Of The Moon
6.) This World As We Know It
7.) Shiver
8.) Uncle
9.) Up In Flames
10.) Hope You’ll Stay
11.) Home

Behold: The Table Tender!

We’ve all thought it while out for drinks: “Why do I have to wait for the waitress/waiter to bring us another pitcher? Why can’t we just have a beer tap right here at the table?” Well, apparently this dream has become reality in Atlanta, Georgia. This sports bar is definitely not the first of it’s kind (these tap systems have been in South America and Europe for nearly a decade), but God bless twenty-six year old Jeff Libby for bringing his version of this brilliant invention to the US of A!

The Table Tender will hopefully be coming to a sports bar near you very soon. Along with all the genius creations of the past few decades, this just might be the greatest. Gone are the days of having to communicate or even get off your ass for a beer. Cheers!
