Asher Roth :: So College

I can almost guarantee this dude eats eggs benedict every morning for breaky while rippin’ the grav bong, his lyrics and style are that dope. He pretty much did what every college kid dreams of when they graduate: drink beer, smoke pot, avoid a real job, and turn their favorite hobby into a full-time profession. His name is Asher Roth and this is exactly what he did.

Asher Roth was and still is your average college kid. He is a skinny, white MC from the middle of Pennsylvania (Morrisville, PA); however, his sound has been compared to Eminem’s, thus with a better sense of humor. He has rapped 150 bars to Jay-Z in his office on the spot, he throws keg parties every Sunday, he lives by the credo “WWJD” (What Would JEEZY Do?), and yes, Steve Rifkind (Wu-Tang, Akon, David Banner, Big Pun, Loud Records, SRC, etc…) calls him the “best lyricist he has heard in the last 10 years.”

Roth comes off as a complete joke through his image as he is portrayed taking a shit with his laptop on his MySpace and taking beer bongs in the studio, but his rhymes are legit. When he’s not rhyming in the ATL he finds time to purchase rare kindergarten art off eBay as he feels it portrays the soul in its purest form. This kid is a perfect reflection of college.

Bobby Digital :: You Can’t Stop Me Now

RZA takes solace in his comic book persona; Bobby Digital to produce a new album entitled “Digi Snax” due later this summer. The first single “You Can’t Stop Me Now” has the instantly recognizable Wu sound with sampled guitar licks, dirty drum kicks and ominous chanting on the chorus complete with the late Ol Dirty Bastard’s drunken crooning. The video is a comic book inspired visual acid trip. Lyrically the song finds RZA in a retrospective state contemplating his street days and his early career achievements. The subject matter of early Wu leads one to believe maybe he was affected a little more by the voices of dissent then he leads on.
